Satellite guidance systems for tractors burst upon the American agriculture scene in the 1990s, leading the way to an era of precision agriculture that has quickly matured, with many opportunities ahead.
The mechanization of American agriculture has been ranked as one of the top 10 engineering accomplishments of the past century, right alongside the invention of the computer and putting a man on the moon.
Randy Taylor, Extension agricultural engineer at Oklahoma State University, told the general session of the Beltwide Cotton Conferences in New Orleans that electronics and control systems for use in precision agriculture could match in importance such things as the tractor and the rubber agricultural tire, both key elements of the mechanization of agriculture in the last century...........More

Adopting precision farming technologies can be likened to healthy eating - you know it's good for you, but it's easier sometimes not to do it anyway, whether due to financial considerations or some other reason.
According to a survey completed this year of farmers in southwest Alabama, more than 91 percent of the growers believe that precision agriculture practices will increase their profitability...........More

TWO MAJOR precision ag companies recently have created an alliance to develop new precision products for farming. Ag Leader of Ames, IA, with its precision ag software and hardware will collaborate with AutoFarm, Fremont, CA, a company known for precision positioning and intelligent control systems.
The allied companies have released two new products: the Integra display and ParaDyme steering system. Expect to see more new products from the two companies in the future.

Two major precision ag companies recently have created an alliance to develop new precision products for farming. Ag Leader of Ames, IA, with its precision ag software and hardware will collaborate with AutoFarm, Fremont, CA, a company known for precision positioning and intelligent control systems.
One of the first new products developed by the two companies is the Integra display. The Integra, which features a 12.1-in., color, high-definition touch screen, manages all the operation controls in a tractor or vehicle. It includes a built-in steering and guidance system along with an on-screen lightbar. These features make the display an option for growers who want manual guidance but expect to upgrade in the future.
